You will rarely come across a man that is more passionate about school facilities management (and its intricacies) than James Lloyd. Although he didn’t know co-founder Jemma when they were chosen as the Head Boy/Girl team at school, they became inexorably paired over their common passion for supporting education through sustainable social innovation. It was this pairing that led to School Space being founded in 2011 and James has lost none of his enthusiasm and vocal advocacy for the company and it’s mission. No part of the operation is unseen by him and he is as comfortable with troubleshooting locks as he is driving high level business strategy.
After coming together with James in 2011 as one half of their school Head Boy/Girl team, Jemma has remained a passionate beating heart of School Space. A lifelong evangelist of the importance of education, she excelled as an undergraduate with a degree in history from Cambridge University. With broad oversight of sales, strategy and company expansion, Jemma leads from the front with the same conviction as the day she started.
Schools Partnership Manager
Bonnie hasn’t yet learned how to not love everything she does and brings this incredibly positive attitude to the whole company. Guilty of being overly modest, she casually launched one of the UK’s fastest growing and most successful startups (TaskRabbit). Bonnie is acting as the lynchpin of our School Partnership efforts and wider communications strategy. Her skills don’t end at driving startup success, with musical talents that she coyly admits ‘went quite well.’ We’re still pressing her for tickets to her next live performance and are desperate to meet her Bulldog, Ernie
Head of People
At the tender age of eight Laurence began his entrepreneurial career by enlisting school parents to take and deliver McDonald’s orders for students under the guise of fundraising. Fast forward to today and his methods remain similarly opportunistic however his focus has shifted strongly to people, the ‘why we do what we do’ of work and releasing people from mediocrity in the pursuit of social impact. He’s run his own company, recruited for countless early stage startups and been a long running advocate of easy peelers as the office fruit of choice.
Customer Bookings Manager
As a keen geographer and lover of the outdoors, Simon built his career with the Royal Geographical Society. Here he co-ordinated nationwide volunteering schemes for thousands of individuals, making excellent use of his warm interpersonal demeanour, eye for detail and all around enthusiasm for a good cause. When not doing his bit to make the world a better place you’ll find him chewing up the miles on his road bike, being the cool dude at a gig and extolling the virtues of a strong meme game.
Cluster Manager (London)
The education sector is laden with idiosyncrasies and Mike Gadd has had extensive exposure to all of them. With an early career forged in various roles with sector heavyweights, RM Education, Mike gained an intimate understanding of the business of schools, the impact of their work and the particulars of just how they tick. Combine this with intensive experience with high growth, early stage tech startups and you have a skillset that brings tremendous industry knowledge, contemporary startup thinking and a cheery disposition that lifts and encourages all those that encounter him. When not wielding his operational magic wand, Mike is preparing for his wedding next year, climbing all over the country and extolling the virtues of his favourite CRM systems.
School Sales Manager
Three year veteran of doing business development for schools as a recruiter, Tom joined School Space to give something back to the sector he’s proud to represent. When he’s not focusing on new schools for us to partner with, he’s carefully strategising everything from sales funnels through to how to communicate the School Space value proposition to head teachers and business managers alike. Avid gym goer, sense of humour that’s so dry you could drink it and all around hero.
Although you don’t often see someone in an elephant onesie heading up Machu Picchu, in 2013 you would have been pleasantly surprised to see just that. When combining an adventurous soul with a burning desire to enact widespread societal change, you get Aditi – an entrepreneurially minded, operations supremo. With everything from systems, to communications to marketing falling under her remit, she has made a massive impact on how School Space runs and prepares for growth. She is also a superb chef.
Ancient history graduate from Bristol University, Polly has had a long running connection with the education sector, with both parents working as teachers. Polly grew up on school sites across the country and is proud to contribute to the sector she has seen operating at all levels and is determined to support. Joining as a crucial member of the operations team she has effectively completed a mini MBA turning her effective and effortless hand to functions as broad as finance, logistics, admin and people ops. She has run more marathons than the rest of the team put together, is the dictionary definition for enthusiasm, and cooks a mean risotto.
Venue Manager (Oxfordshire)
Having made the full journey from Community Connector, to Team Leader to Venue Operations Manager, Sally knows our business inside and out. With over 10 years of school site management experience (in addition to having run her own cleaning company), Sally translates the complex school, customer and team requirements into a smooth running operation. Despite being available 24/7 for any issues that arise across the county, Sally manages to find time for gardening, being a petrolhead and perfecting her DIY technique that sees her able to construct a shed in under an hour.
Our team leaders are the glue between the Head Office team and the Community Connectors on the ground. With 1000s of events happening every month, they are the support system for our ground staff, and the friendly faces for our schools.
Our Community Connectors make sure our vision, our mission, our values are upheld day in-day out. From unlocking the schools, to giving the customers an amazing welcome, to securing the site to be handed back to the teachers in the morning, our Community Connectors are absolutely integral to what we do.
